The methyl-methacrylate based synthetic resins are now widely used instead of traditional silver-mercury amalgam dentures. For instance, using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as denture base material shows great biocompatibility and resistance to oral fluids. This ensures that the denture base material stays durable and unchanged over time.

The durability, lightness, and ability to mimic the appearance of natural teeth of synthetic resin enable dentists to easily shape resin teeth to match the unique contours of a patient's natural teeth, ensuring seamless integration of the patient's dental structure.

Dentures made from synthetic resins based on PMMA have lifelike features, such as enamel-like translucency, subtle color variations, and realistic surface textures. The aesthetic appeal provided greatly enhances patient satisfaction following dental procedures.

Adhesive systems, like light-curing, self-curing, and heat-curing systems, usually use primers based on methyl methacrylate to enhance bonding between synthetic resins and PMMA-based denture base materials through chemical interactions at their interfaces.
