Citronellol

Citronellol, or dihydrogeraniol, is a natural acyclic monoterpenoid. Both enantiomers occur in nature. It is found in citronella oils, including Cymbopogon nardus (50%), is the more common isomer. (−)-Citronellol is found in the oils of rose (18–55%) and Pelargonium geraniums.

Citronellol can be prepared by hydrogenation of geraniol or nerol.

Citronellol has multiple applications in the industry.

l-Citronellol

l-Citronellol is a citronellol that is oct-6-ene substituted by a hydroxy group at position 1 and methyl groups at positions 3 and 7 (the 3S-enantiomer).

It is an enantiomer of a (R)-(+)-citronellol.
