l-Bornyl Acetate

L-Bornyl Acetate (also known as (-)-Bornyl acetate) is a colourless transparent liquid that emits a cool and pleasant aroma, reminiscent of a sweet blend of herbs and pine leaves. As a versatile monoterpene ester compound, it can be isolated from various natural plant essential oils, including fir oil, Blumea balsamifera, Salvia fruticosa, carrot, rosemary, and lavender oil. Alternatively, its industrial synthesis involves heating borneol and acetic acid in the presence of sodium acetate.
