Terpinyl Acetate

Terpinyl Acetate is found in Pine oil, Cajeput oil, Pine needle oil, Cardamom oil and other essential oils.

It appears colorless to pale yellow liquid with lemon and lavender odor.

Terpinyl Acetate is industrially produced by the ethanoylation of terpineol in the presence of Acetic anhydride.

It is widely used in the fragrance of daily chemical commodities and flavors of food, the contents can be up to 30%.

α-Terpinyl Acetate

α-Terpinyl Acetate (α-TA) is a monoterpene ester and a secondary plant metabolite. It is specifically distinguished from generic “Terpinyl acetate” by its isolated, highly pure isomeric form. While “Terpinyl acetate” often refers to a mixture of isomers (α-, β-, and γ-), α-TA represents a defined chemical entity with consistent properties.

It is naturally found in various plants such as cardamom, thyme, lovage, and laurel, contributing to their aromatic profiles. α-Terpinyl Acetate possesses a sweet, herbal, floral, and distinctly lavender scent. Due to its characteristic aroma and recognised safety, it is widely used as a fragrance component and odorant in daily chemical products. Furthermore, its safety profile allows for its application as a food flavouring additive.

In industrial preparation, α-Terpinyl Acetate can be efficiently synthesised from α-Pinene in the presence of an H-β zeolite catalyst, ensuring a high-purity product.
