Coatings & Paints & Inks
In the pigment particles of printing ink, it is necessary for the pigments to be mixed together with dispersants, tackifiers, solvents, and other components to adhere to the substrate. Traditional solvent-based inks are being replaced by water-based inks because of environmental concerns and other factors. Modified rosin resins are important tackifiers in water-based inks due to their solubility, compatibility, and adhesion capabilities. To make water-based inks perform as well as solvent-based inks, water-based ink products use rosin derivative polymers, such as Pentaerythrite Modified Rosinate as a tackifier. This gives them the polymer molecular and latex particle characteristics needed to meet the market's performance requirements for ink gloss.
In the application of coating formulations, the film-forming properties of rosin modified resin help create a consistent and smooth thin film on the surface, which assists the coating in adhering smoothly to the substrate. Simultaneously, rosin modified resin enhances the flexibility of the coating, improving its resistance to cracking and brittleness.
