Cooling Agent WS-10

WS-10 (Menthoxypropanediol) provides a long-lasting cooling effect (Strength 4.5) without the minty odor or taste associated with menthol (Strength 1) . It can be used in lower concentrations compared to menthol while achieving a similar cooling effect.

The WS series cooling agents supplied by our company have unique advantages in the supply chain. Welcome to purchase.

Application & Uses

  • WS-10 is commonly used across diverse categories, including oral care (toothpaste, mouthwash), cosmetics (creams, lotions), food & beverages, pharmaceuticals, personal care (shampoos, conditioners).
  • In Vaseline ointments, delivers cooling intensity 2–2.5 times that of menthol.
  • Provides balanced, comprehensive cooling suitable for oral care and cosmetics.
  • Used medically in sprays such as sedatives and analgesics.

Features & Benefits

  • WS-10 exhibits very low volatility with virtually no aroma; recommended food usage is 0.01%–0.005%.
  • Provides intense cooling with a heavier taste profile, menthol-like olfactory notes, mild stimulation, and bitterness; at >50 mg/L, delivers long-lasting, distinctly menthol-like cooling.
  • Features two alcohol hydroxyl groups for improved water solubility (though not fully water-soluble) and good oil solubility; combines effectively with WS-3, WS-23, and menthyl lactate in solvent-free systems, ideal for daily fragrance formulations.
  • WS-10 (refer to Takasago TK-10) threshold 1 ppm (20%–100% menthol equivalent), 100 ppm sustains 20–25 minutes cooling (twice menthol); WS-10 2S isomer 2–3× stronger than 2R, 1.5–2× stronger than racemic.
  • Acts on oral cavity (front of tongue, palate, front of throat) and skin, lasting up to 12 minutes.
  • Generally recognised as safe (GRAS) for food and cosmetics within recommended concentrations.
