Natural Viridiflorol
Natural Viridiflorol is extracted from the leaves of A. edulis. It appears crystalline granular powder with sweet green herbal fruity tropical minty odor. Due to the antibacterial effect, Natural Viridiflorol is mainly used in pharmaceutical industry to treat skin disease and some respiratory diseases.

Q&A
What in vivo anti-inflammatory evidence supports viridiflorol as a preclinical drug-development candidate?
In carrageenan-induced mouse paw-oedema and pleurisy models, orally administered viridiflorol at 3 or 30 mg/kg significantly inhibited inflammatory responses, supporting in vivo anti-inflammatory activity (Trevizan et al., 2016, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). In the pleurisy assay, 3 mg/kg and 30 mg/kg reduced total leucocyte migration into the pleural cavity by 71±5% and 57±3%, respectively, showing that viridiflorol can reduce cell infiltration during acute inflammation; however, this non-monotonic response does not by itself establish an optimal dose or maximal efficacy (Trevizan et al., 2016, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). These findings support further mechanism, formulation and safety work on viridiflorol as an anti-inflammatory lead, but carrageenan models are not equivalent to chronic respiratory disease, and any medicinal or respiratory-health claim would require additional disease-model and human clinical evidence (Capasso et al., 1975, Pathology; Trevizan et al., 2016, Journal of Ethnopharmacology).
What level of antioxidant support can formulators expect from natural viridiflorol 99%?
Available evidence indicates that viridiflorol has moderate antioxidant activity in DPPH and ABTS in-vitro radical-scavenging assays; in one reported DPPH comparison, its EC50 was 74.7 μg/mL versus 82.9 μg/mL for Allophylus edulis essential oil (Trevizan et al., 2016, Journal of Ethnopharmacology; Sobottka et al., 2021, Revista Árvore). This suggests that 99% viridiflorol can make a supporting radical-scavenging contribution in oil-containing or fragranced systems, but current data do not show that it can replace a primary antioxidant system in a finished product or that it is the sole determinant of the oil’s antioxidant activity. DPPH and ABTS are chemical screening assays, so formulators should confirm performance in the target matrix through accelerated-oxidation testing and relevant markers such as peroxide value, odour or colour change; these results also do not support preservative or therapeutic claims (Lee et al., 2015, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine).
What emerging in-vivo evidence suggests that viridiflorol may have value in anti-arthritic and analgesic drug development?
A mouse study found that viridiflorol reduced mechanical hyperalgesia, joint oedema, total leucocyte and polymorphonuclear-cell migration, nitric oxide, and protein exudation in zymosan-induced articular inflammation, suggesting effects on both acute joint-inflammation and pain-related endpoints (Balsalobre et al., 2023, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). In the same study, oral viridiflorol at 200 mg/kg inhibited oedema and nociception in the formalin model, while local administration inhibited mechanical hyperalgesia and oedema induced by carrageenan, TNF-α or DOPA; the authors proposed that TNF-α- and DOPA-related pathways may contribute to its local action (Balsalobre et al., 2023, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). These findings position viridiflorol as an early anti-inflammatory and anti-hyperalgesic lead rather than a validated arthritis therapy; pharmacokinetic studies, repeat-dose toxicology, long-term joint-disease models, structural-damage endpoints and human clinical studies are still needed to assess translational value.
