In-Cosmetics Global, the world’s largest conference and exhibition dedicated to personal care ingredients, returns to Paris next month, April 16-18 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Once again, In-Cosmetics Global offers attendees invaluable opportunities to network, source ingredients and formulate the next generation of cosmetic creations. More than 900 personal care ingredient suppliers will showcase their products and services.

“As always, the show aims to not only unite the industry but to celebrate excellence in cosmetic science. The three core pillars, on which this year’s event are built, aim to advance science-backed beauty, support the industry’s innovation, and ensure sustainability remains a key focus,” said Roziani Zulkifli, event director, In-Cosmetics Global. “Our extensive educational program provides unmatched opportunities for attendees to do just that; the Technical Seminars, Formulation Lab and other Zones are specifically designed to ensure each attendee walks away with a solid knowledge base gleaned from some of the best in the industry.”

In-Cosmetics Global arrives at the City of Lights against the backdrop of an expanding global beauty and personal care market. According to industry sources, the category is growing 3.33% a year and will exceed $761 billion by 2028. The largest segment of this growth is expected in personal care, estimated to reach a market volume of $282.8 billion.

Three Pillars to Success

As noted, this year’s event is based on science, innovation and sustainability, and various features of the show will reflect and embody these themes. With consumers’ ongoing efforts to protect the planet, sustainability remains a focus across the entire show floor. In its trends predictions for 2024, Euromonitor International found more than 60% of consumers tried to have a positive impact on the environment, while 45% reported feeling like they were personally contributing to climate change. As such, In-Cosmetics Global will help champion a greener, more eco-conscious industry, according to Reed Exhibitions, the show organizer.

The Sustainability Zone, in partnership with The Green Chemist Consultancy and Ecovia Intelligence, is devoted to inspiring, offering information and uncovering opportunities for brands to be more sustainable. This year, the Zone encompasses other features, including the Sustainability Display and Theater, the Sustainability Pavilion and the new Sustainability Zone Forum.

Visitors will be able to discover environmental and social sustainability initiatives in the interactive product Display area, while the Theater is designed to offer guidance and insights on the different approaches that brands can take to improve their sustainability credentials. The Sustainability Zone’s comprehensive educational program includes a number of informational sessions that touch on the most prominent and emerging trends facing the industry.

Also in the Zone, and new this year, is the Sustainability Zone Forum, the one-day program created to share and discuss new advancements that deliver sustainability improvements. The Sustainability Pavilion will provide a dedicated space where visitors can identify and explore sustainable solutions across the entire cosmetics value chain.

Tied closely to the show’s innovation pillar, the Innovation Zone, sponsored by Ashland, is one of the most popular features at the event. It gives attendees the opportunity to discover the latest raw materials to hit the market in the past six months. It will feature more than 180 new and recently launched personal care ingredients from exhibitors, all of which are entered into the Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Awards, moderated by an industry-led panel, and announced at the awards ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Testing, Regulation & Lab Zone is sponsored by Skinobs. The Boost Your Test area will help suppliers to identify the most appropriate testing methods. Over in the Sensory Bar, which will be dedicated to showcasing new and impactful sensations for cosmetic products, visitors will be offered sensory experiences through personal care formulations in haircare, lipsticks, moisturizers and more. Amidst the continued surge in makeup trends on social media, the MakeUp Bar will offer visitors the interactive opportunity to see, test and try popping pigments and delectable hues in emerging makeup formulations, including nail polishes, lip lacquers and eyeshadow palettes.

In addition, fragrance houses, producers and distributors of extracts and ingredients will showcase their products and take visitors on a journey of new scents and fragrance trends in the Fragrance Zone. Here, they can obtain expert advice, learn about regional differences and source aromatic components for their personal care formulations.

The expert-guided R&D tours, sponsored by Mibelle Biochemistry, Probiotical and Symrise, will connect visitors with the latest ingredient trends and suppliers, enabling participants to visit selected exhibitor stands, offering first-hand exposure to innovations and trends shaping the cosmetics landscape. Tour themes are neurocosmetics, advancement in microbiome and skinification of the scalp.

Staying close to the show’s focus on science, offering in-depth insights into the latest personal care technologies and their specifications, the Technical Seminars will ensure attendees leave with a solid and substantiated knowledge base gleaned from some of the best ingredient suppliers in the industry. More than 90 seminars will be held over the three days across three theatres. Taking a deep dive into haircare trends through several sessions will be Emilie Gombert, senior product development manager at Oat Cosmetics, with her session, “Novel natural peptide: Improving hair health from root to tip,” Valeska Mentzer, business development manager consumer products EMEA, Stepan, hosting “Make scalp care top of mind for product development,” and Guglielmo Bifulco, marketing and sales manager at Kalichem, introducing “100% natural conditioning active: Hair detangling, anti-frizz and styling action.”

Sessions & Insights

Other sessions will touch on topical and emerging themes such as “The menopausal skin microbiome – what do you need to know?” by Dr. Kristin Neumann, CEO, MyMicrobiome; “Unlocking Timeless Beauty: Efficacy of Astacos OL50 in Anti-Aging Formulations” from Alexander Pototschnik, head of product development, BDI-BioLife Science and “Hair loss: Understanding the impact of seasonality and climate changes” from Laura Cabrera, haircare technical manager of Zurko-CTC. These seminars operate on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Formulation Lab, sponsored by Brenntag GmbH, will offer up to 27 interactive, hands-on experiences and lessons in formulation techniques and practices. The Lab will be open exclusively to R&D and lab staff of cosmetic contract manufacturers, private labels and indie brands, with sessions from experts at Ashland, Nikko Chemicals, Bloomage Biotechnology Corp., Ltd., Kobo Products Ltd., Brenntag Holding GmbH and many more.

Univar Solutions will host two sessions this year; Monika Ruiz-Golcher, technical specialist, beauty and personal care EMEA, will present “How to formulate a face mask in an aqueous stick format?” and Rita Hanna, technical specialist beauty and personal care EMEA, will share how to prepare attractive formulas that meet current niche and masstige brand marketing briefs, in “How to formulate a hair mask balancing naturality up to 97.4% with a strong efficacy.”

The Formulation Lab will be overseen by Lorna Radford, technical advisor to In-Cosmetics Global. She is an award-winning cosmetic scientist, founder of Enkos Developments and member of the Society of Cosmetics Scientists (SCS) education committee.

There will also be dedicated areas that aim to unite suppliers from different regions; this year’s country pavilions will allow visitors to connect with cosmetic and personal care companies from France, UK, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, Peru and China.

Helping to bridge the physical and digital world for visitors and exhibitors will be In-Cosmetics Global’s partnership with ingredient platform, Covalo. Together, the two organizations will be establishing an advanced search index platform to streamline ingredient exploration. Covalo x In-Cosmetics will give access to over 80,000 ingredients from over 1,000 suppliers, helping the industry discover, connect and collaborate with thousands of ingredient suppliers worldwide, all year round.

Market Intelligence

Taking a broad view of the market, the bustling Marketing Trends Theater, in partnership with COSSMA, will lead with three days of presentations and panel discussions on the latest trends, breakthroughs and regulations shaping the industry. Povilas Sugintas, senior analyst at Euromonitor International, will open the show with “European Beauty and Personal Care market Trends 2024+,” looking at the impact that artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability, social, economic and political factors will have on global consumer trends in the year to come.

Futuristic sessions, such as “Next-gen beauty tech, hyper-personalization and the omnichannel journey” from Mario Braz de Matos, co-founder of Flying Fish Lab, will look at how beauty tech will evolve to play a significant role in enhancing omnichannel shopping experiences and digital engagement with consumers.

Award-winning author, strategist and founder of Light Years, Lucie Greene, will host her session, “In what ways is the wellness trend influencing innovations in the beauty industry?”

An expert-led panel on “Science-backed beauty vs misinformation” will gather experts from Kenvue, Beautystreams, Kline & Co., Euromonitor International, Personal Care Regulatory Ltd. and the Institute of Personal Care Science, to discuss the challenges of debunking misinformation, bridging the gap between R&D and marketing, and leveraging technology to further drive evidence-based skincare to consumers.

Taking place after the event’s first day, visitors are invited to the free-to-attend awards ceremony, sponsored by Kenvue, which will honor cosmetic science excellence and innovation in ingredients.
