合成95% α-松油醇（萜品醇）是一种高纯度的萜烯醇，由合成松油醇精制而得，天然α-松油醇则是从精油中单离制得。一般工艺上用稀硫酸处理松节油，使其中的主成分α-蒎烯水合转变生一水合萜二醇，将此中间体脱水得到粗制萜品醇，再经分馏，精制制得。合成过程中常含有β-松油醇和γ-松油醇等异构体。

α-松油醇呈无色液体或低熔点透明结晶体，伴有紫丁香香气。溶于70%的乙醇溶液中（1:2），微溶于水和甘油。广泛用于配制紫丁香型、柑桔型香精及香水中，亦可用于生产乙酸α-松油酯、二氢α-松油醇及其他合成香料。
