Polyterpene Resins Scheme

Polyterpene resins, derived from terpene compounds through cationic catalytic polymerization, are a general term for polymers. Common types include Terpene resin, alpha-Pinenes resin, beta-Pinenes resin, Dipentene or (d)-Limonenes resin, and modified polyterpenes such as Styrenated Terpene Resin, Terpene Phenolic Resin, and hydrogenated terpene resins.

The polyterpene resin possesses excellent physical properties such as non-toxicity, hydrophobicity, non-crystallinity, electrical insulation, and strong adhesion. It also exhibits chemical properties like acid and alkali resistance, anti-aging, and is easily soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons and vegetable oils. It serves as an excellent tackifier, binder and modifier for hot melt materials.
