Specific biochemical inhibitors of NF-κB (BAY 11-0782, ‘BAY’), p38 MAPK (SB2-3580, ‘SB’) or ERK MAPK (PD98059, ‘PD’) were added 40 min before stimulation with LPS from E.coli at 1 lg/mL (a, c, e and g) or LPS from P.gingivalis at 1 lg/ml (b, d, f and h) for 24 h. Cytokine production in cell
culture supernatants was quantified by ELISA (in pg/ml). Asterisk significant differences in comparison with the positive control (LPS stimulation alone) (unpaired t test, p.05)
